“Passionate… superb… heartfelt” – The Guardian
Multi-award-winning, multi-instrumentalist, Tony Kofi, cuts a searing figure on the British and international jazz scenes: his fluent and fiery hard-bop style equally impressive on Alto, Baritone, Soprano or Tenor saxophone, or the flute.
Beginning his career in the early 90’s with the Jazz Warriors, Gary Crosby’s NuTroop and Jazz Jamaica, he has been featured with Donald Byrd, Eddie Henderson, Sam Rivers Rivbe Big band, Andrew Hill Big Band, Abdullah Ibrahim, Harry Connick JR and Ornette Coleman, to name a few.
His many current projects include his own Trio and Quartet, a Tribute to Cannonball Adderley, a double leaders project with Alan Barnes, and a highly acclaimed partnership with harpist Alina Bzhezhinska. He also co-founded the Monk Liberation Front, (dedicated to the music of Thelonious Monk) alongside Jonathan Gee.
Tonight he features organ player Pete Whittaker (Art Themen, Filthy Six, John Etheridge) in a blues-soaked Trio with guest vocals from Georgia Mancio (Alan Broadbent, Ian Shaw, Kate Williams).
