“Intensely melodic, eventful and full of surprises... [his] beauty of tone …is certainly one of the joys of the current scene " - Jazz on CD
Saxophonist, composer and ECM recording artist, Iain Ballamy, is recognised as “a major international voice” (The Times) and listed in the BBC publication ‘100 Jazz Greats’.
His many career highlights include: Hermeto Pascoal, Loose Tubes, Bill Bruford’s Earthworks, Carla Bley, Cedar Walton, Claire Martin, John Dankworth, Ian Shaw, June Tabor and ‘Concerto for Stan Getz’ by Richard Rodney Bennett with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
The first jazz musician to receive the prestigious Paul Hamlyn Composer’s Award (2007), his commissions include the London Sinfonietta, Joanna MacGregor and film soundtracks ‘Luna’ and ‘Mirrormask’.
